Why Is There A Light Line Around The Edge Of The Tinted Windows
On some fixed panes of glass, like rear quarter lights and rear windows, there are a series of black dots, or what we call a dot matrix around the outside edge of the window.
These ‘dots’ are actually enamel paint baked onto the interior surface of the glass for aesthetic and fitment purposes.
Because the ‘dots’ are raised from the surface of the glass, this holds the film away from the glass, causing this area to hold a little extra moisture during window tint fitment, and also after curing.
Depending on how large & raised the ‘dots’ are, will determine the eventual look of the window tint in these areas, but the white or lighter appearance diminishes as the water dries out and the adhesive cures.
This is not seen on factory window tints, as the tint is laminated between the sheets of glass which form the finished pane, and don’t have the dot matrix to contend with.
