'How It's Done' - Ace Tinting
Here we show to you how window tinting is done with Ace, just incase you felt nosey- or wondered what your pride & joy will go through on the day of its tinting experience.
Remember if you do get any questions about window tinting, or want to know more about us and how we do window tinting, you can speak with one of the (very) friendly team on 01743 636140/01743 466100.
1: Vehicle Is Washed Off
Firstly, we wash the car off to ensure we minimise the transfer of dirt and/or dust into our tinting area and the vehicle itself.
2: Move Vehicle Into Tinting Bay
The vehicle is moved into 1 of the 2 bays in our seperated & clean tinting area, where we have great artificial LED lighting as close to natrual light as possible, as well as where we store all of our tinting films, tools and equipment.
3: Outside Of Glass Is Re-cleaned & Checked
We re-clean the outside of the glass to ensure any surface contamination is removed, as well as checking for any damage or blemishes which may affect the tinting installation or be highlighted when the glass is tinted
4: Check The Tinting Requirements
The tinting technican will then check the customers order to ensure the correct shade and grade of tint is selected to be installed, check any special requirements and note if priority must be given for Optimum+ customers.
5: Rough Cut The Tinting Film
The glass panes are measured, the film pieces are cut to an approximate size and placed on the glass pane and the excess trimmed off ready for the next step.
6: Shrink The Tint To Shape
As most automotive window panes are curved, either slightly or significantly, this means a flat piece of window tint film will not lie flat & so has to have the excess shrunk to enable it to lie flat on the pane of glass.
The shrinking is carried out using heat guns and skill and experience to know where and how much to shrink out of the window tinting film.
7: Final Trim Of Tint To Exact Size
When the tint lies flat on the pane, it can then be finally trimmed to size ready to be fitted to the inside of the glass.
8: Removal Of Trim Parts For Fitting
In order to properly fit the tint to the inside of the glass, in many instances it is necessary to remove trim pieces, door panels and/or window gaskets first.
This is carried out very carefully by our experienced tinting technicians to ensure damage is not caused with removal and re-fitting.
9: The Inside Glass Is Cleaned
Before installing the tint, the glass and surrounding trim is thoroughly cleaned to minimise the amount of dust ingress during the tint installation. Great care is taken when cleaning the rear windows with demister strips to ensure they are not damaged.
10: The Tint Is Installed
The protective liner on the window tinting film is removed to expose the adhesive layer. A water based slip solution is applied to the window and the tinting film, and the tint is applied on the glass, and carefully adjusted into it's final position.
As much of the waterbased slip is removed with various squeegies, to enable the adhesive to bond directly onto the glass.
11: Drying Out The Tint
Although a significant amount of slip solution is removed, there will be a small percentage still left under the film which will dry out naturally.
To accelerate this drying process, we place heaters in the vehiclesto speed things up.
12: Final Check & Prep For Handover
The tint is checked over, and any minor 'touch ups' carried out to ensure a great finish, and any notification stickers are placed on the window controls or winders.
The bodywork is wiped down to ensure any slip solution removed.
13: Park Vehicle
The vehicle is then parked ready for the customer to collect.

We had the windows tinted on our family car after far too many journeys involving the children fighting with the stick on sun shades & pulling them down just before the sunlight beamed in. We gave Ace a tight deadline after deciding to have it done shortly before a holiday involving a 5 hour journey and the staff were great - as are the tinted windows!Rhea Alton Citroen Picasso
